Course Load - Course Changes

Course Load

Grade 12 students MUST maintain a load of 3 courses per semester.  Permission to carry fewer than 3 courses must be approved by administration and requires the completion of a "Request for Part-time Status" form, which is available in the Guidance Office. Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 are not entitled to a study period; therefore, they must register for 8 credits for the academic year. Special accommodations may be made (only at the discretion of administration) for compelling reasons (such as medical concerns), when supported with a professional's document. N.B. Part-time students are not allowed to participate in school athletics or other extracurricular activities.

Dropping a Course

Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 are not entitled to a study period; therefore, they must register for 8 credits for the academic year, and are not entitled to drop any courses at any time. Senior students must carry a minimum load of 3 courses per semester. No courses are to be dropped in the last 4 weeks of each semester. Students have 5 school days following the distribution of mid-term report cards to decide on dropping a course without academic penalty. Otherwise, by Ministry of Education and Training regulation, "Full Disclosure" states that all course attempts and withdrawals must appear on the student's transcript.

Course Registration

Course selections made in February will be those used for the entire upcoming academic year. A student MUST attend the class scheduled on their timetable unless a new timetable from Guidance has been issued. Failure to do so may result in the student not receiving permission to change a course. Students may NOT change courses for sake of convenience, peer connections, or for the choosing of teachers.
